General Rules for the Teachers' Training Course

In order to keep a clean and pure atmosphere in the centre, it is essential that you follow the general rules below as well as the daily course schedule.

This course is intensive and requires sound physical and mental health. Please note that it is not possible to participate in the TTC during any phase of pregnancy.

  1. Attendance at all classes, lectures, morning and evening meditation sessions is mandatory. If a class or meditation cannot be attended, a written explanation has to be given to the course director. Frequent absence may lead to expulsion from the course.
  2. Karma Yoga, selfless service, is part of the course. It is a practical method to rid oneself from egoism and selfishness. We kindly ask each participant to join in Karma Yoga for about one hour daily.
  3. A Sivananda centre is not a club or vacation resort. Your conduct – private or public – should enhance the spiritual atmosphere of the centre. Do not waste your prana (vital energy) in fruitless activities.
  4. Alcohol, tobacco, meat, fish, eggs and coffee are prohibited on the centre premises. We cannot cater to personal dietary preferences except the yogic-vegetarian meals.
  5. Absolutely no drugs. No taking, distributing or dealing in or around the centre. If you learn of others keeping, taking or distributing drugs you are obliged to report this to the course director immediately.
  6. Please do not leave the premises between 6pm and 8am without the permission of the course director.
  7. Please respect silence after 10.30pm.
  8. Rules for conduct in the meditation hall: the atmosphere should be kept especially pure in this place. At least hands, feet and face must be clean. No unnecessary talk. This space is for meditation and prayers.
  9. Loud music is not allowed in the centre. All music should be of a spiritual nature.
  10. Mobile phones are not allowed in yoga classes, satsangs or lectures.
  11. If you have any medical problem, please let us know when you enroll for the course.
  12. Please adapt your dress to the centre atmosphere, also during asana classes. Please wear loose clothing with covered shoulders and legs. No revealing tops, no shorts, no short skirts.
  13. Books and pictures should be only of spiritual nature.
  14. No burning of incense and candles in your room, these are only used in teaching locations.
  15. Photography, audio and video during classes, lectures and any other course activities is only permitted with the permission of the course director.
  16. The Sivananda Centre is based in a quiet residential area. Please refrain from speaking loudly in the garden or making excessive noise in the outdoor spaces.
