Headstand Workshop

25 January, 2018

7-8.30pm | Thursday

Call to Register

The headstand (sirshasana in Sanskrit) is also called the king of asanas as the posture has so many benefits for your body and mind. By reversing the normal effects of gravity, it rests the heart, aids circulation and relieves pressure on the lower back. A regular headstand practice helps to prevent back problems and improves memory and concentration. Inverting the body also deepens the breath, bringing a fresh supply of oxygen-rich blood to the brain.

Mastering the headstand requires no great strength. It is largely a matter of conquering fear and believing you can do it. The key to balance is the tripod formed by elbows and hands.

Further Training for Yoga Teachers: Yoga for 60+

26 – 28 January 2018

Taught by: Jaya Bharati Patricia Guedj

Call to Register

It is never too late to take up yoga. The later years of life can truly be golden - there is time to devote to oneself both physically and spiritually. Many problems of later life are compounded by insufficient exercise and shallow breathing. But the body has incredible regenerative powers and even after a short time of practising yoga, one can sleep better, have improved energy and a more positive approach to life.

This weekend course for graduates of the Sivananda Teachers’ Training Course will focus on how to teach asana variations for seniors with limited flexibility. Asana class models for various advanced age groups will be practiced and explained. We will look into the warm-up exercises and pay special attention to care for the back.
