Hatha Yoga is the union of the two energies of the bodies, prana and apana, resulting in a unified field of consciousness in which complete peace is experienced. Its goal is the actualisation of the human energy potential, which will bring about a complete rejuvenation and refinement of the body and mind.

It includes the practice of asana, pranayama, bandha, mudras and mantras, and is based on the understanding that prana, the life force, is the invisible principle which is the essence of everything in the universe, including our body and mind. This course will enable you to understand and experience the depth of hatha yoga, and refresh your approach to your asana, pranayama and meditation practice.

Pure ingredients such as grains, vegetables, pulses, fruits and nuts produce an abundance of energy. The headstand (sirshasana in Sanskrit) is also called the king of asanas as the posture has so many benefits for your body and mind. By reversing the normal effects of gravity, it rests the heart, aids circulation and relieves pressure on the lower back. A regular headstand practice helps to prevent back problems and improves memory and concentration. Inverting the body also deepens the breath, bringing a fresh supply of oxygen-rich blood to the brain.

Mastering the headstand requires no great strength. It is largely a matter of conquering fear and believing you can do it. The key to balance is the tripod formed by elbows and hands.

The retreat takes place in a delightful log cabin with far reaching views over the valley and the Downs. The venue is nestled in a secluded valley in an Area of Outstanding Beauty and comprises a beautiful wild flower meadow, vegetable garden and orchard.

If you travel by public transport, take the train to Didcot Parkway station (to Paddington to Didcot Parkway station (approximately 40 minutes). Didcot is 15 minutes by taxi from The Lotus Sanctuary. If you wish to travel on the same train with other retreat participants and share the taxi to the venue, we suggest the following trains:
