The science of Raja Yoga explains the subtle functioning of the mind: its different levels, how habits are formed, how pain is generated and how one can free oneself from mental suffering. It teaches us how to focus the mind and realise our true nature which is beyond mental conditioning.

It makes us aware that our true self is pure bliss and absolute peace. It gives a wonderful message of hope and encouragement and inspires us to rise beyond the habitual states of depression, excitement and fear and find the centre within where we are not shaken by the changes that challenge us in our lives.

The headstand (sirshasana in Sanskrit) is also called the king of asanas as the posture has so many benefits for your body and mind. By reversing the normal effects of gravity, it rests the heart, aids circulation and relieves pressure on the lower back. A regular headstand practice helps to prevent back problems and improves memory and concentration. Inverting the body also deepens the breath, bringing a fresh supply of oxygen-rich blood to the brain.

Mastering the headstand requires no great strength. It is largely a matter of conquering fear and believing you can do it. The key to balance is the tripod formed by elbows and hands.

Fasting is nature’s healing agent. Cleansing diets and fasting programs are natural cleansing methods to detoxify the body.

A fast gives the digestive system a rest, eliminates toxins and rejuvenates the entire body. Physically, it gives nature a chance to clean the system and give it a complete overhaul.

Mentally, a fast develops concentration, strengthens the willpower and helps to release negative emotions. Thought processes slow down, resulting in clarity of mind.

This programme offers a one-day fasting day on carrot juice and vegetable broth – a gentle way to help your body detoxify. The fast will be combined with the practice of kriyas, classical cleansing techniques to further purify the body. Yoga and meditation are an important aspect of the detox and fasting day.
